Bright and attractive colours to accurate and vitality drawings. That is what characterizes the posters for the Mercè festival this year. The city council has presented the four designs, all of them designed by the Colombian illustrator Catalina Estrada, which this year will identify the city parties. With her drawings, Estrada wanted to transmit the colour and the diversity of this festival and of the city of Barcelona in general.
Catalina Estrada (Medellin, 1974), that lives in Barcelona from 1999, has consolidated her career inside the art and design’s world where she has worked for multinational brands and for organisms as important as Unicef. Among other creations, in 2008 she designed the tissue of the Mercè festival that year.
The festivities this year, which will be held on September from 22nd and 25th, will have a great person who will inaugurate the event. The Catalunya Ràdio sports journalist Joaquim Maria Puyal (Barcelona, 1949) will be the responsible for reading in the Saló de Cent of the City Council the opening speech for the Barcelona annual festival. The mayor, Xavier Trias, has defined Puyal as a lover of the city while he has also highlighted his career.
Trias, who has took the advantage of that launch of the Mercè festival to praise the work done by the previous government team, he has also announced that the city invited to the festival is one of the most traditional Russian cities in the arts area, especially in dance, music and circus. Therefore, artists from St. Petersburg can be seen in the Ciutadella park, day and night, but also in the Montjuïc Castle, where it will be settled a circus tent and where will perform some of the best Russian clowns at the moment.
Music, dance, circus and tradition proposals will have a meeting in Barcelona this September. Do not miss it out!
